Music: Elton John set for January concert

Elton John and his band will return to the Blaisdell Arena early next year to perform their “Greatest Hits Live” concert, promoter Tom Moffatt announced today.

“The Blaisdell Arena is ecstatic to have Elton John return to the stage in Honolulu,” said Blaisdell Arena Events and Services Manager John C. Fuhrman in a press release.

Tickets for the Jan. 6 concert go on sale at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, priced from $39 to $139. They will be available online at, in person at the Blaisdell Box Office, or charge by phone at 800-745-3000. Each customer will be allowed to purchase up to eight tickets per transaction; service charges apply.

As one of the top-selling solo artists of all time, Elton John has 35 gold and 25 platinum albums to his credit, along with 29 consecutive Top 40 hits; he has sold more than 250 million records worldwide. His single, “Candle in the Wind ’97,” is the biggest selling single of all time, with more than 37 million copies sold. He has played almost 3,000 concerts since launching his career in 1969.

Elton John’s band includes Davey Johnstone on guitar, Bob Birch on bass, John Mahon on percussion, Nigel Olsson on drums, and Kim Bullard on keyboards.
