The Pulse named 2011 EPPY Awards finalist

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser’s entertainment website,, was named a finalist in the 16th Annual Eppy Awards honoring the best websites in 43 categories.

The international contest sponsored by Editor & Publisher, a leading media journal, recognized the Pulse and the National Film Board of Canada as the top two entries in the category of best entertainment website with under 250,000 unique monthly visitors.

Entries were evaluated on content, design, usability and other factors, with the Canadian site getting the nod in final judging completed Nov. 30 by journalists from the New York Times, CNN, the Associated Press and other top media organizations and institutions. For more on the Eppys, visit

The Pulse, which launched in 2010, provides in-depth and breaking entertainment and dining news; photo galleries of parties, concerts and community events; bloggers covering nightlife, music, food, fashion, film and television; reviews of stage shows, films and concerts; videos and more.

After just one year, the Pulse has grown to become Hawaii’s leading entertainment website, with 226,000 unique visitors and more than 9 million page views in November alone.
