Food La La: Signature Steak and Seafood
BY LINDSEY MURAOKA / Special to the Star-Advertiser
Signature Prime Steak and Seafood recently opened on the 36the floor of the Ala Moana Hotel. The atmosphere is classy with crystal chandeliers, marble floors, and a white baby grand piano. The highlight is the beautiful ocean and city views.
Signature has been open a little more than a month now, but I’ve already been there three times. Once was during their grand opening party and twice for happy hour. Signature’s happy hour is from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. daily with half-off bar menu appetizers and drink specials. This is one of my new favorite spots to go for happy hour because of the lovely ambiance and good food.
Signature has 11 different types of specialty drinks. My favorite is the B.Z.T., which is a spicy Bloody Mary infused with sirracha and wasabi. It also comes with a strip of crispy bacon! I swear, all drinks should come with bacon. The B.Z.T is only $6.50 during happy hour (regular price is $13).
All bars in Hawaii need ahi poke on their menu. Signature’s version ($7 happy hour, $14 regular price) is fresh and comes with avocado.
I recommend ordering the Steak Salad ($7.50 happy hour, $15 regular price) only if you really love salad or are looking for something healthy to eat.
The Ahi Tartare ($7 happy hour, $14 regular price) is one of my favorite items on the happy hour menu. The ahi is infused with truffle oil which makes it a decadently delicious dish.
Another favorite is the Fried Calamari ($6 happy hour, $12 regular price). A lot of places offer fried calamari, but Signature’s tastes fresh and slightly melts in your mouth. It is topped with a sweet chili sauce.
For me, happy hour does not seem complete without French fries, especially extra crispy Garlic Fries ($4 happy hour, $8 regular price). These go great with the B.Z.T drink.
The Lettuce Steak Wrap ($6.50 happy hour, $13 regular price) is juicy with a spicy marinade and goes well with the accompanying tangy sauce.
This six-ounce filet is a happy hour special for $12. They only serve about 12 of them a night, so order quickly!
My friends and I ended our meal with The Signature Shake ($13) for dessert. This drink is a creamy and rich adult milkshake with Absolut Vanilla, Kahlua, Godiva chocolate liqueur and vanilla ice cream! This is great if you want to have something sweet to eat after dinner.
Here are some pictures I took at the grand opening party earlier this month. Signature specializes in fresh seafood so they served a lot of it.
My favorite side dish is the Lobster Mac & Cheese. It is rich, creamy, very cheesy and filled with big chunks of lobster. I am drooling just from looking at the picture.
Group picture with my table at the party!
