“America’s Got Talent” viewers sent home a contestant with Hawaii ties for the second straight week, dismissing Oahu resident Ciana Pelekai during a second week of eliminations decided by a public vote.

Local dance crew Hype went home during the show’s first live results episode on July 24.

Pelekai, 12, chose a cover of Emeli Sande’s “Next to Me” for her live performance on Tuesday, July 30, at Radio City Music Hall

“This is a really tough one,” celebrity judge Mel B. told Pelekai the following night, July 31, as she awaited her fate alongside country singer Marty Brown and sword-swallowing daredevil Alexandr Magala. “I’m so glad we judges don’t have to decide this.

“You have a stunning voice. Your performance was great last night.”

America didn’t agree, however, that she deserved one of four slots available for the 12 acts featured this week. Instead, country singer Brown, operatic trio Forte, dance crew Innovative Force and impressionist Angela Hoover were selected to move on to the show’s semifinal round, bringing them one step closer to a $1,000,000 grand prize and Las Vegas show contract.

They’ll be joined by the KriStef Brothers, Collins Key, Brandon James and Anna Christine, who were all picked by viewers last week to advance to the semifinals.
