62ND CHERRY BLOSSOM FESTIVAL BALL: Dinner and Japanese culture celebration crowning the queen and court, 5 p.m. Sheraton Waikiki. Cost: $95.
The annual Cherry Blossom Festival culminates with the crowning of the 62nd Cherry Blossom Festival Queen during a festival ball at the Sheraton Waikiki on Sunday. After six months of preparation, contestants will perform taiko, model elegant evening gowns and silk kimono, and display the poise and knowledge of Japanese culture necessary to represent the local Japanese community as Cherry Blossom Queen.
Doors open at the Sheraton Waikiki at 4 p.m. with a silent auction, followed by the official program at 5 p.m. Tickets are $95 and include dinner; call (808) 949-2255.
DR. J’S BLUES REVIEW: The weekly blues night at Anna O’Brien’s, 2440 S. Beretania St., celebrates legendary guitarist Eric Clapton’s birthday with special guests Yvonne Elliman (a former Clapton collaborator), The Chames Gang, Chocolate Meat and Cradle2Grave representing three generations of Hawaii blues guitarists. The music starts at 6 p.m. Sunday; no cover. Call (808) 946-5190.
JURASSIC 5 RETURNS TO HONOLULU: Jurassic 5 — rappers Charles Stewart (Chali 2na), Dante Givens (Akil), Courtenay Henderson (Zaakir aka Soup) and Marc Stuart (Marc 7), DJs Mark Potsic (DJ Nu-Mark) and Lucas Macfadden (Cut Chemist) — first appeared on the hip-hop scene in 1995 and released their self-titled debut album in 1998.
