Grind Time: Hula Grill serves chocolate and beer

Apr. 8, 2014 | 0 Comments

Hula Grill Waikiki is doing it’s part to support Made in Hawaii products this week as the restaurant hosts an Artisanal Dinner featuring Oahu’s Madre Chocolate, Hawaii island’s Big Island Brewhaus and Maui’s Ulupalakua Vineyards.

What makes Wednesday’s event even more special, however, is the involvement of Madre’s chocolate maker, Nat Bletter, and Big Island Brewhaus brewmaster Thomas Kerns. The two will be at the Outrigger Waikiki restaurant to talk story and answer questions as guests enjoy five different food and drink stations featuring dishes made with Madre Chocolate and paired with Big Island Brewhaus beers.

Here’s the menu:

» Pan-Seared Scallops with Lemon Hibiscus Chocolate Curd, Roasted Hamakua Mushrooms and Port Reduction (served with Ulupalakua Vineyards’ Lokelani Sparkling Wine)

» Artisan Roasted Cacao Nibs and Pink Peppercorn-Seared Wild Hawaiian Kona Kampachi with Miso Su Mustard, Pickled Red Cabbage and Big Island Hearts of Palm (served with Big Island Brewhaus’ Golden Sabbath Golden Ale)

» Shinsato Farms Pork Belly with Smoked Sunchoke Puree, Xocoxochiti Chipotle Allspice Chocolate Jus and Nalo Farms Mizuna Pomegranate Salad (served with Big Island Brewhaus’ Overboard I.P.A.)

» Cardamom Chocolate Braised Hawaii Rachers Short Ribs with Yucca Frites, Crispy Brussels Sprouts and Pecorino Chees (served with Big Island Brewhaus’ The Red Sea of Cacao)

» Homemade S’mores Bar with Graham and Gingerbread Cookies, Marshmallows, Coconut Milk and Caramelized Ginger Chocolate (served with Big Island Brewhaus’ Tall, Dark & Mandarin Stout)

Hula Grill will host two “seatings” for Wednesday’s dinner, at 6 and 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $65; visit to purchase online. Call (808) 923-4852 for more info.
