EDM PIONEERS AT THE REPUBLIK: A quarter-century since its creation, electronic music group the Orb is still going strong thanks to founder Alex Paterson.

Paterson has been the lone constant of the London-based group, which started in 1988 as an ambient and dub DJ duo of Paterson and KLF member Jimmy Cauty. When Cauty left in 1990, Paterson continued to work as the Orb with others such as producer Thomas Fehlmann, Killing Joke’s Martin “Youth” Glover and Tim Bran of Dreadzone.

The Orb comes to The Republik, 1349 Kapiolani Blvd., on Saturday night in the debut of Electric Palms Hawaii’s The Legacy Series, which features important EDM acts of the 1990s.

The Orb’s critical and commercial success in the United Kingdom peaked in the early 1990s with the albums “The Orb’s Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld” and “U.F.Orb,” the latter of which reached No. 1 on the British Album Charts in 1992.

In its last two albums, “The Orbserver in the Star House” and “More Tales from the Orbservatory,” the Orb teamed with reggae producer Lee “Scratch” Perry on vocals.
