Former Hawaii resident Camren Bicondova, who danced for the popular 8 Flavahz dance crew, is pawing her way to success.
She’ll have a prominent role in “Gotham,” the Fox show that portrays the characters and city of comic-book fame in its pre-Batman era. She plays a young Selina Kyle, an orphan and a cat burglar, who as an adult becomes Catwoman.
The show, scheduled to air in the fall, will also depict the adventures of a young detective, Jim Gordon, (Ben McKenzie) later the police commissioner; Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) as a teenager who witnesses his parents’ murder; and other characters like Edward Nygma — E.Nygma, get it? — in his pre-Riddler days (Cory Michael Smith) and Alfred the butler (Sean Pertwee).
Bicondova, 14, danced for 8 Flavahz during its remarkable run to the finals of the “America’s Best Dance Crew” television competition in 2012. The group drew attention not only for its snappy hip-hop routines but because of its youth, with its members aged 10-17 at the time.
The team also had to deal with separation anxiety of a sort — some members lived in Hawaii, while others lived in Los Angeles. Camren in fact grew up in Hawaii but relocated to Los Angeles to pursue her career in show business. The crew sometimes had to rehearse using Skype.
Her dance skills are apparently coming in handy on set. According to the U.K.-based Mail, she “expertly navigated a fire escape” in one scene and had her dance skills “pushed to the maximum.” Photos show her wearing an all-black outfit.
