Food La La: Hy’s launches new happy hour
BY LINDSEY MURAOKA / Special to the Star-Advertiser
I’m always on the lookout for places with my favorite time of day: Happy Hour! Hy’s Steak House recently launched their new happy hour food and drink menu that I was excited to check out.
Happy hour at Hy’s is from 5 to 6 p.m. weekdays in the restaurant’s lounge area near the bar. They offer a selection of their classic cocktails for $8.
On the left is the Strawberry Lemondrop with vodka and sweet and sour with a sugared rim. On the right is the Hy’s Old Fashioned with bourbon, soda and bitters.
This is the Prime Beef Blue Cheese Sliders with Fries ($13). I love how the juicy flavor of the burgers complement the sharp and pungent flavor of the blue cheese.
The hearty Prime Rib French Dip Sandwich ($12) is another sandwich offered during happy hour.
The Grilled Asparagus ($8), topped with poached egg, bacon, shaved parmesan and truffle oil is one of my favorites.
The Escargot a la Hy’s ($10) is a must-order, and at a great price, too. Of course, the best part was dipping pieces of bread into the rich, buttery garlic sauce!
If you’re looking for something lighter, the fresh Ahi Poke ($12) is a good dish to order.
These are the succulent Oysters on the Half Shell ($15 for 6 oysters).
Happy hour isn’t complete without fried food!
French Fries ($5).
Fried Panko Onion Rings ($5).
Fried Mozzarella with Marinara Sauce ($8).
The fried rice looks plain but is filled with tons of garlicky flavor ($6). It’s perfect for warding off vampires, or your date (just kidding!).
Hy’s Steakhouse is located at 2440 Kuhio Ave. Honolulu, HI 96815. For more information check out their website at: www.hyshawaii.com.
