Food La La: A New Beginning
BY LINDSEY MURAOKA / Special to the Star-Advertiser
Food La La debuted on March 10, 2011 with a post on the grand opening of Sushi San. I can’t believe it’s been four years since I started my blog here on the Pulse!
Over the years I’ve learned and grown so much, as well as got to try some amazing food. I love sharing my food adventures with everyone online.
I titled this post “A New Beginning” because I am changing the direction of my blog. I’m still writing about food, but will now focus on vegetarian and vegan living. I am changing direction because I made the decision to cut out meat — and eventually all animal products — from my diet.
Last year, I began a self-healing journey and let go of many things in my life that were holding me back from happiness and truly being myself. It has been an incredible whirlwind of a journey. Through meditation and spirituality, I’ve learned to become more aware of what I’m putting into my body. I naturally started craving more fruits and vegetables and less meat.
My journey of healing and self-discovery led me to spend more time outdoors in nature. I make an effort now to enjoy our beautiful Hawaii sunsets as much as possible!
I’m not going to label myself and say I am a strict vegetarian or a vegan, because maybe every now and then I might want to indulge in some pizza or ramen (although I think I could come up with some delicious vegan pizza recipes that I will share on my blog!).
I believe moderation in everything is important and the best thing to do is listen to my body. Also, I don’t judge anyone who eats meat (my friends and family still do), but because of my personal decision and the way I want to live my life, I decided to stop.
It might seem like a challenge at first to find places to eat, but there are many restaurants that have vegan and vegetarian friendly options that I want to cover here on my blog. I also want to interview people who are living the lifestyle and get their tips and advice. Not eating meat has also led me to cooking more for myself at home so I want to share my recipes here on my blog too!
Thank you to all my readers who have been following my blog throughout these years. I would love for you all to come with me on my new journey. Who knows, maybe it might inspire you to add a little more fruits and vegetables into your life! I also want to thank Honolulu Pulse and The Star Advertiser, especially Christie Wilson and Jason Genegabus for giving me this opportunity as a blogger for the past 4 years. It has been an amazing time. I’m excited to continue blogging and sharing my new food adventures!
