The 11th annual Kawaii Kon convention wrapped up a three-day run at the Hawaii Convention Center on Sunday with an announced attendance of 10,450.
The convention, which celebrates the love of Japanese animation and culture, also attracted artists who displayed their work in Artist Alley.
Fans were treated to various anime-related activities during the event, including special guest panels with famous voiceover artist Rob Paulson of “Pinky and the Brain” fame, and a concert by Japanese recording artist Eir Aoi.
Kawaii Kon has steadily grown more popular since its inception in 2005, moving from the Ala Moana Hotel to its current home at the Hawai‘i Convention Center.
For artists and fans alike, it’s an opportunity to share their talents.
“We’re all in this together,” said local artist Leah Rose. “We’re all a big bunch of nerds. Let’s get excited together about silly things.”
Organizers announced next year’s Kawaii Kon will take place from April 8-10, 2016.
