Dad’s day specials: Father’s Day is June 21 and what dad doesn’t love eating? Below is a sampling of what is being offered around town to celebrate that special man.
» Japengo at the Hyatt Regency, 2424 Kalakaua Ave.: Chef Jon Matsubara’s special menu includes a 16-ounce Pulehu rib eye and king crab leg with sake creamed spinach, Hamakua mushrooms and garlic potato for $75. A la carte items are also available.

» MAC 24/7 Bar and Restaurant at the Hilton Waikiki Prince Kuhio Hotel, 2500 Kuhio Ave.: An “All He Can Eat” buffet features more than 20 items including garlic rosemary prime rib carving station, Jack Daniel’s barbecue beef ribs, kalbi eggs Benedict and the world-famous MAC-Daddy pancake station.

» Mariposa at Neiman Marcus, Ala Moana Center: A special Father’s Day menu is available from Thursday through June 21.

» Moana Surfrider, 2365 Kalakaua Ave.: Aimed for those dads who love beer. The hotel’s annual Beer Fest, held under the hotel’s historic banyan tree, features beers from Mission Brewery, Gigantic and Pelican brewing companies, Blanche de Bruxelles and more. There will also be food pairings and live entertainment. From 4 to 7 p.m. Must be 21 or older.
» The Pineapple Room by Alan Wong at Macy’s, Ala Moana Center: Alan Wong’s Father’s Day buffet features three carving stations — loco moco bar, prime rib, Chinese roast duck — and more.

Health Bar goes big: Chef Dave Cruz has added new savory dishes to Diamond Head Cove Health Bar’s menu. Try his seared ahi and eggs, grass-fed Niihau beef loco moco, hot pastrami or roast beef sandwiches, ahi bahn-mi and more. There are items for vegetarians, too, such as the Nalo baby kale salad and garden veggie po’ boy.

Old and new at Mavro: Chef Mavro is sharing his catch from Alaska with a three-days only, brand-new, “Return from Alaska” menu. Enjoy the six-course meal featuring salmon, halibut and sea bass for $119 (wine pairings are an additional $75). This meal from the sea will only be available from June 18-20.
Pastry chef Jose Calpito has a new dessert to devour. His lychee declinaison consists of a lychee sorbet and lychee and hibiscus gelee with pistachio praline, coconut fennel foam, white chocolate cremeux, coconut pastilles and hibiscus reduction. Available while the season lasts.

Many people have once again been jonesing for Chef Mavro’s Onaga Salt Crust dish, so the item is back for this month only.
