In the Mix: Best of 2012
BY JASON GENEGABUS / jason@staradvertiser.com
It’s the final day of 2012, which means it’s time for another post looking back at the year that was.
Hands down, the grand opening of The Republik in the former O Lounge location at 1349 Kapiolani Blvd. changed the entertainment landscape, despite an initial PR hiccup over the lack of proper permits from the City and County of Honolulu.
After a few weeks of confusion — compounded by a complete lack of information from The Republik itself — the concert venue that doubles as a special event space with an attached lounge area (The Safehouse) bounced back and has consistently rocked Honolulu with shows that have attracted up to 1,000 raging club kids.
Tonight, The Republik hosts a sold-out New Year’s Eve party with headliners Macklemore and Ryan Lewis; Mat Kearney will follow on Jan. 17, with performances by Bill Burr (Jan. 26), Sleigh Bells (Feb. 4), Jo Koy (Feb. 8) and NOFX (Feb. 23) also announced for the coming weeks.
