The Morning After: Turning the page

I don’t know whether it was the weather, the mango pollen (which I’m allergic to), or just something my body decided was long overdue, but I slept a lot this weekend. Going to bed on a First Friday at 8 p.m. is unheard of in “Lacyworld.” But that’s exactly what I did last Friday.

My greatest accomplishment over the weekend was finishing two books: “Three Cups of Tea” and “Like Water for Chocolate.” Both had an overarching “love” element.

In “Three Cups of Tea,” by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin, the love component was focused on the idea of compassion for people as members of the human race. The love became a passion to promote peace and education to young Pakistani children that was eloquently detailed in the true-life story.

The Mexican novel “Like Water for Chocolate,” written by Laura Esquivel, focused on the love between a man and a woman torn a part by tradition and tragedy. In this post, I may make references to either book because they were equally entertaining and provided inspiration for my weekend activities.

My events began on Wednesday when we stopped in at Buffalo Wild Wings in Waikiki on our way to Vané Russo’s art exhibition. OK, here’s a random fact about me: I hate eating with my hands. I just don’t like to get my hands or plate messy when eating. It’s a weird habit that I’ve carried since I was a child who pushed my food around on the plate to keep it from touching each other. Although not as obsessive about it nowadays, I still prefer food of the less messy variety. So when this restaurant was suggested, I was not very enthusiastic.

The idea of saucy hands practically gave me an anxiety attack. Yup, it’s that bad.

But luckily for picky eaters like myself, there is something on the menu called “boneless wings” — perfectly sauced little morsels of boneless chicken that can be eaten in a civilized manner with a fork and knife.

It was a new experience, and I can see how this restaurant and bar is the perfect place to come with the guys to watch a sporting event, or even to pick up a few boys. But it’s not exactly fine dining, nor the most girly place to catch a snack.

Shooting is fun. Get a .22 rifle to start and read up on gun safety and marksmanship.

Hey! There are several different subjects in this blog, Lacy…I’m having a difficult time deciding which is my least favorite. BTW…what type of bodily fluid is on your chicken wings? If pressed, I would have to say that may be the highlight of your literary attempt this time.
