Valentine’s Day is almost here! Instead of the usual chocolates and other sweet treats, I thought I would make something fun and local instead, so I made heart shaped spam and egg musubi with my friend Kelly Loui.

I got the idea for these cute musubi’s from a friend on Twitter, Devin Yoshimoto, who is raising money by selling Hawaii-themed care packages for a charity he is involved in called Lemonade Alley. One of the packages has a Valentine’s spam musubi theme.

Lemonade Alley is a business competition for children in kindergarten through high school. Teams create a business plan and participate in building their own lemonade stands as well as selling lemonade for a day, with all money raised donated to charity. This fun competition teaches children about teamwork, creativity and entrepreneurship.

Here are some pictures from last year’s event, courtesy of Lemonade Alley.

A portion of the proceeds from all care packages sold at leihut.com will go towards funding this year’s Lemonade Alley in July.

If you would like a chance to win a Valentine’s Spam Musubi package, post a picture of loved one or an awesome musubi on their Facebook wall before Feb. 14. The picture with the most likes wins!
