Valentine’s Day options remain for procrastinators

Still thinking about doing something special for Valentine’s Day? Here are a few options:
Celebrate Valentine’s Day early with an all-you-can-eat, chocolate-themed dessert buffet (and a few savory selections, too) at the Veranda at the Kahala Hotel and Resort, starting at 7 p.m. Feb. 10, followed by a performance by HAPA at 7:30 p.m.
The Plumeria Beach House also offers a Lover’s Aphrodisiac Buffet (with a glass of sparkling wine) from 5:30 to 10 p.m. on Feb. 10, 11, 14, 17 and 18. Hoku’s is offering a five-course prix-fixe “Love menu” ($115 per person, $150 with wine).
On Valentine’s Day, you can also reserve a private cabana fora five-course dinner with private butler service starting at $350 per couple.

For Valentine’s Day, Azure Restaurant at the Royal Hawaiian is offering an array of seafood and steak specialites created by chef Jon Matsubara, served by candlelight.
Start off with chilled hamachi followed by grilled black tiger prawns. For the main course, choose from grilled prime rib steak, roasted Kona lobster tails, or Hawaii fresh fish.
Dessert is a “Kula Strawberry Tasting” extravaganza featuring strawberry shortbread with sorbet, strawberry mousse in chocolate tulip cups, strawberry key lime pie, strawberry cheesecake pralines and strawberry milkshake with a mini malasada stuffed with strawberry jam.
Cost is $85 per person (not including tax and gratuity). A keiki menu (for children ages 6 to 12) is also available for $40.

Nobu for You
At Nobu Waikiki, an exquisite, seven-course Valentine’s menu was designed by head chef Robin Lee with head sushi chef Yoshio Ono and pastry chef Rchel Murai.
Start your evening with a Toro “cigar,” Siberian caviar and Karashi Su Miso, followed by seared hotate tiradito with mochi yuba and a kampachi sashimi salad. The entree is butter-poached lobster with spicy lemon sauce and a wagyu duo, along with assorted sushi and lobster miso soup.
Dessert is pinot noir truffle with burnt caramel ice cream, hazelnuts and orange zest.
Cost is $140 per person. Nobu is at the Waikiki Parc Hotel. Reservations are encouraged at 237-6999 or via www.opentable.com.
SALT Kitchen & Tasting Bar’s first Valentine’s Day prix-fixe menu starts with an “Aphrodisiac Shooter” of oyster, uni, Cava sparkling wine, Quail egg and rube red grapefruit caviar. The next course, “French Kiss,” offers foie gras stuffefd dates with Marcona almonds.
Choose from a Chateaubriand or butter poached lobster (for a little extra) for your entree. Dessert is a chocolate terrine with compressed strawberries, toasted milk and vanilla salt.
Accompanying wines are from California, France and Portugal.
Two hour seatings begin at 5 p.m. Cost is $75 for the prix-fixe menu (plus $25 for wine pairings). Call 744-7567 for reservations.
Renew Your Vows
The Willows is offering complimentary wedding vow renewal ceremonies, as well as promise ceremonies (for couples who aren’t married yet) for Valentine’s Day dinner guests. Commemorative certificates will be issued by Kahu Kelekona Bishaw.
Sunset ceremonies will start at 6:15 p.m., and twilight ceremonies at 7:45 p.m.
The Valentine’s Day menu, created by Executive Chef Miles Miyamoto includes a choice of salads, a seafood station and entrees including buttermilk fried chicken, bacon-wrapped pork loin with pineapple chutney, opakapaka with shiitake slaw, and a shrimp and scallop seafood bake. There will also be a carving station with prime rib and roasted leg of lamb.
Dessert is fresh fruit, vanilla panna cotta, red velvet cupcakes, warm chocolate hazelnut cake and more.

Porterhouse for Two
Wolfgang’s Steakhouse at the Royal Hawaiian Center offers Porterhouse for Two on its Valentine’s Day menu, available from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Feb. 14.
Sides include mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. Dessert is Chef James’ Cupid’s Chocolate Delight.
Wolfgang’s is giving away its Wolfgang Teddy Bear to each couple with a dinner purchase on Valentine’s Day (while supplies last). Cost is $102. 14 per couple.

Sake Sweetheart: If you haven’t tried a new restaurant yet, the newly opened Japengo at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki is offering a five-course Valentine’s menu accompanied by sake and a strolling ukulele performer.
Executive Chef Sven Ullrich is starting off with an appetizer (it’s a surprise), followed by Maguro Nigiri, torched Hamachi and soft shell crab and Japengo chicken salad. The man course is filet of beef with Caledonia prawn and Tristan lobster. Dessert is a crispy banana roll with cane syrup and vanilla bean ice cream.

Chef Mavro is offering his famous Pavlova dessert on all menus from Feb. 10 to Feb. 13. The restaurant is also open on Valentine’s Day but is fully booked at this point. A few remaining tables remain for Valentine’s Eve, when Mavro will be offering a six-course gala menu of truffles, uni, foie gras, lobster, lamb, mignardises and more ($148 for dinner only, $63 additional for wine pairings).
On Friday, Saturday or Sunday, you can choose from the “Weekend of Romance” four-course, six-course or Grand Tasting menus.
Hula Grill Sunset Dinner
Enjoy a sunset dinner at Hula Grill Waikiki (at the Outrigger Waikiki), with views of Waikiki Beach and Diamond Head. Executive Chef Paul Rivera is offering a Valentine’s menu highlighting local ingredients.
Choices include rock shrimp and spinach ravioli with truffled oyster mushroom and Kahuku corn cream, Mahi with Molokai sweet potatoes, and roasted chateaubriand with black cherry and Big Island cocoa cabernet sauce. Dessert is red velvet mascarpone cake with chambord chocolate ganache and raspberry coulis or strawberry hula pie. Valentine’s Day menu items are available a la carte.

On a budget? Wahoo’s Fish Taco at the Ward Gateway Center is offering a free No. 1 combo meal if you pick up one of their flyers off their counter. The combo meal offers a choice of fish, marinated steak, grilled chicken, braised pork or veggie taco with Wahoo’s ahi rice, beans and fresh mild salsa. The offer is good from Feb. 11-14 for dine-in customers only.
