Scene+Heard: A night at the Hoku Awards

So, I just got home after attending my first ever Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards. I went with good company too with my friends and fellow industry movers and shakers, Brandon Apeles, Kelli Heath and Shawn Moseley. What a night!
It was exciting to attend the award show as one of the six lucky nominees for Rock Album of the Year. And though I didn’t walk away with the coveted award (my friend Kamuela Kahoano did), I did get to meet some of the cream-of-the-crop artists in the local music scene. I took a ton of pictures tonight, so this post is guaranteed to be image heavy. I just met so many amazing musicians, that I had to share!
After arriving early and doing a little mingling, the event started with a pre-show award presentation for award categories that did not make it to the televised broadcast due to time constraints. Awards for graphic design, liner notes, engineering and more were given away to a slew of winners celebrating their hard work for musical projects in 2010.
Guests sat at numbered tables, taking in the gigantic soft-lit stage. After sharing a nice meal with my fellow table mates the three-hour televised portion of the show began. My table included nominee for the Engineering Award as well as Contemporary Album of the Year, Rolando Sanchez, and Daniel Lehman and friends who were nominated for the Religious Album of the Year,
