Even though, for the second year in a row, there will be no Kokua Festival at the Waikiki Shell, Jack Johnson will still be a presence in 2012 with today’s announcement of the release of a “Jack Johnson and Friends – Best of Kokua Festival” compilation to be released April 17 and an interisland acoustic tour with John Cruz and Paula Fuga starting two days later.
The tour will kick off at the Kauai Community College Performing Arts Center, then go to Oahu for two shows at the Hawaii Theatre on April 21 and 22, two shows April 25 and 26 at the Castle Theater at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center, and finally two more shows at the Kahilu Theatre on Hawaii island on April 28 and 29.
Tickets for the Hawaii Theatre shows will go on sale March 3 and must be purchased in person at the theater box office at 1130 Bethel Street. From 9 a.m. to noon, only members of Jack and Kim Johnson’s Kokua Hawaii Foundation can purchase presale tickets, and from noon on, the sale will be open to the general public.
Cost is $50 for balcony and upper balcony seats, and $75 for loge and floor-level seats. There will be a two-ticket limit per person.
Proceeds from the concerts and compilation will benefit the Kokua Hawaii Foundation.
The festival compilation will feature live performances from the benefit concerts that started back in 2004. Culled from six years of the eco-minded music festival, the album highlights Johnson’s onstage collaborations with musicians like Willie Nelson, Jackson Browne, Eddie Vedder, Ben Harper, Dave Matthews, Ziggy and Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley and more.
