Aloha Chai’s: The last dinner at Chai’s Island Bistro at Aloha Tower Marketplace will be served Dec. 31.
Chef-owner Chai Chaowasaree announced that Chai’s Island Bistro is closing its doors at the location after more than 14 years.
Chaowasaree is opening Chef Chai at Honolulu Pacifica, 1009 Kapiolani Blvd., in February, with a new focus on contemporary, healthy cuisine (as in, no butter). Highlights include apple kim chee summer rolls, Mrs. Cheng’s soft tofu with coconut ginger broth and broccolini, beet risotto and braised rainbow trout with zucchini linguini.
For the nostalgic, though, this month is your opportunity to enjoy one last dinner at Chai’s Island Bistro and to catch a lineup of some of the isle’s greatest entertainers who have sung there in the past.
The Brothers Cazimero perform tonight as well as every Friday for the rest of the month — with a special show to take place with Halau Na Kamalei on Dec. 28. Hapa, the first group to perform at Chai’s, plays on Dec. 30.
Dinner is served nightly starting at 4 p.m. Chai’s Island Bistro is at 1 Aloha Tower Drive; 585-0011, www.chaisislandbistro.com.
Christmas desserts to go: Brasserie Du Vin pastry chef Beth Iwata is offering Christmas desserts to go through Christmas Eve.
Among your choices are a chocolate-amaretto cheesecake ($45), lilikoi cream cheese tart ($30) and mixed seasonal berry lemon custard tart ($30). The cheesecake serves from six to nine, and the tart serves eight to 10.
Orders may be placed by calling Brasserie Du Vin at 545-1115 at least 24 hours before pickup. Pickup is available weekdays and Saturdays at 1115 Bethel St.; www.brasserieduvin.com.
Jennifer’s Gingers: The Halekulani is offering a special ginger cookie through a partnership with New Yorker Jennifer Crandall (who shared her family’s secret recipe) for the holidays. A portion of sales will be donated to Lanakila Meals on Wheels.
The cookies are available at the Halekulani Logo Boutique until Dec. 31, offering a true baker’s dozen (13 cookies) for $18 plus tax at the hotel, 2199 Kalia Road. Special bulk orders can also be placed: Call the concierge at 923-2311 or visit www.halekulani.com.
