Social Encore: Discovering your makeup skills
BY JERMEL-LYNN QUILLOPO / Special to the Star-Advertiser
As someone who has participated in pageants and done some modeling back in the day, I can confidently say that I can decently put makeup on myself.
I have to admit, however, when I look at magazines or see pictures from friends who are makeup artists, I wonder if I could pull off that look. Some people imitate looks by looking at pictures, some like watching video tutorials from makeup gurus, and some even go to local makeup stores and have their makeup done while watching and taking notes during the process.
Don’t you wish you could actually ask questions of the people who posted those makeup pictures and videos when you are stuck in a rut? Or asking about certain makeup and hair products?
Well, here is your chance — and it’s all thanks to Face Art Beauty, a local company with years of experience doing hair and makeup in Hawaii. Voted the best makeup team at the 2012 RAWards and Wedding Wire awardees, this team of professionals know what they are doing. All have extensive resumes with makeup and hair experience for special occasions and commercial projects. And now they offer a workshop that will help unleash your own inner beauty guru.
Applying fake eyelashes is one of the things you will learn during the new workshop. Face Art Beauty operations manager Dhyanna Leung gave me a small tutorial on how to put them on.
Our model for the video is none other than Fresh Cafe owner Tiffany Tanaka, who was already wearing Mink eyelash extensions. Since Tanaka’s eyelash extensions were near the end of their life cycle, we wanted to give her fuller eyelashes on top of the existing extensions. We decided to use synthetic eyelash extensions to match her Mink extensions.
“Perfecting your Makeup Skills” with Face Art Beauty takes place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, March 24, at the Hifi Coop at Ward Warehouse. Visit Face Art Beauty’s website for more details and to reserve a seat at the workshop.
